Establish an RDP connection to a Windows server

Foreword

In this article, we explain how you can establish a remote desktop connection (RDP connection) to your Windows server with various operating systems.

Prerequisites

  • Windows Server

RDP connections with Windows

If you are using a Windows operating system, you can use the Remote Desktop application, which is available with every regular Windows installation.

To open this, you can simply use the Windows key and then search for Remote Desktop. Then open the Remote Desktop Connection application.

Once you have opened the application, enter the IP address or the name (e.g. XXXXX.creolineserver.com) of the Windows server you wish to connect to under Computer.

Enter the access data for the Windows server. These can be found in the password vault of your creoline server. In the next step, confirm the identity of the server. Here you can also select the option below so that you no longer see this message in future.

As soon as the connection has been established, you can use your Windows server via Remote Desktop.

RDP connections with macOS

Download the Windows App application from the App Store.

Alternative applications that support RDP connections can also be used.

Open the application and add a new PC in the first step:

In the following window, enter the IP address of the target server you wish to connect to:

For a better connection overview, you can assign a user-defined name under Friendly name. Otherwise, the specified PC name is used as the display name.

You also have the option of adding the access data persistently so that you do not have to enter it again for each connection:

In the next step, connect to the server you have just added.\n

After entering the access data, the server certificate of the server must usually be accepted.

To do this, use the Continue button.

As soon as the connection has been established, you can use your Windows server via Remote Desktop.
