Change hostname
In this article, you will learn how to customize the hostname for Plesk servers in the Managed or Unmanaged support level. If the server is to be used for sending emails, make sure that all the necessary steps are completed in full, otherwise outgoing emails will be rejected immediately if, for example, the technical host name does not match the RDNS entry.
Preparation
To change the host name in Plesk, the corresponding DNS entries should first be prepared. To do this, navigate to the desired DNS zone in the Customer Center and create the appropriate DNS entries for the IPv4 and IPv6 address.
Example:
RR-Type | Host | Value | TTL |
---|---|---|---|
A | web | IPv4 address | 3600 |
AAAA | web | IPv6 address | 3600 |
You can view the current IPv4 and IPv6 address of the server in the Customer Center in the Network tab.
Changing the RDNS host name (reverse DNS)
Access the server via our Customer Center and navigate to the Network tab.
In the Available IP addresses section, you can adjust the RDNS entry for the respective IP addresses. Please ensure that the RDNS host name is adjusted for both the IPv4 and IPv6 address.
Change in Plesk
To do this, navigate to the desired server in the Customer Center and select Plesk Control Panel. Then navigate to the menu item Tools & Settings → Server Settings.
Enter the new desired host name in the Full host name input field.
SSL certificates
Then navigate to the menu item Tools & Settings → SSL Certificates and click on the Let's Encrypt button to issue a new certificate for the server.
After the certificate has been successfully issued, the Plesk Control Panel may need to be completely reloaded for the changes to the certificate to take effect.
Control panel (optional)
If you use the Plesk Single-Sign-On function in our Customer Center, the adjustment to the new host name is also required here. Navigate to the Control Panels tab in the Customer Center and edit the host name to the new host name.
