Server Snapshots
Our snapshot technology allows you to quickly back up and restore the entire server as an alternative to server backups. This feature is particularly useful for upcoming deployments or software updates.
Supported Products: All managed servers running on Linux or Windows are supported. This also includes our Accelerator products such as MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and NGINX.
Server snapshots are retained for a maximum of 14 days. Once the retention period expires, snapshots are automatically deleted without further notice.
Use Cases
In addition to our server backups, server snapshots can be used to back up or restore the entire file system in just a few seconds. Server snapshots can also be used to save a current state before a major update or feature enhancement, which can be restored in just a few seconds in the event of an error should the update or feature enhancement cause a problem.

Snapshot Contents
The server snapshot stores the following contents:

Create a Server Snapshot
First, log in to the Customer Center and select the server for which you want to create a new snapshot from the “Servers” menu item.
You can manage all existing snapshots via the Snapshots tab.
In the snapshot overview, you can view all existing snapshots. The snapshots are sorted in descending chronological order, so the most recent snapshot is always listed first.
Select the Create Snapshot button to create a new server snapshot.

Description:
Enter a description for the server snapshot so that you know exactly what state this snapshot contains, allowing you to better decide which state to restore in the event of a recovery.

Back up RAM:
This option is particularly useful when using technologies that utilize RAM to store important information. Examples: Redis, memcached, APCu.
The snapshot feature is only available for servers with a maximum partition size of 500 GiB. Alternatively, please use server backups.
Server snapshots are subject to a maximum retention period of 14 days. Older snapshots are automatically deleted without further notice.
Restore a Server Snapshot
Existing server snapshots can be restored using the Restore button. To do so, select the appropriate snapshot.
To initiate the snapshot restoration process, a valid verification method must be on file in addition to the hostname.
Once the snapshot has been successfully restored, you and the organization owner will receive a confirmation via email. The server can then be managed as usual through our Customer Center.
