Transferring a Domain from Another Provider to creoline
This Help Center article explains how to transfer existing domains from another provider to creoline.
Prerequisites
- AuthCode
Please note that different TLDs have different additional requirements that must be met by your organization first. However, the shopping cart will clearly indicate these requirements before you complete the transfer order. For more information, please visit our TLD Wiki: TLD Wiki
Distinguishing Between Domain Management and DNS Zone Management
If you want to transfer a domain to us, you have only the following options:
- Domain management in our Customer Center
- Domain and DNS zone management in our Customer Center
Domain Management
It is important to understand that domain management exclusively involves managing the legal owner and domain contacts, configuring the nameservers, enabling DNSSEC, and managing the entire domain portfolio.
DNS Zone Management
Zone management, on the other hand, is the part that takes place on the DNS servers (nameservers). Here, only DNS records are created, edited, or deleted.
To clarify: a domain can be registered with us (Domain Management) while Cloudflare’s nameservers are configured for it (DNS Zone Management). In this case, the DNS records are managed in the Cloudflare portal.
If you’re unsure about domains and DNS zones, we recommend handling domain management and DNS zone management through our Customer Center.
Create a DNS Template
If this is an active domain with existing DNS records, you should first create a static DNS template that covers all current DNS records. This can be selected later when completing the domain order, so that the DNS records can be propagated directly into the DNS zone managed by our nameservers.
If you do not create a static DNS template and have not prepared any DNS records, the transfer will be carried out without a prepared DNS zone, and placeholder DNS records will be set, which may require subsequent adjustments. See also: DNS Records
Transfer a Domain
To transfer a domain to creoline, navigate to Domains → Register on the left-hand side. You can then search for your desired domain and, if the domain is already registered, initiate the transfer by clicking the “Transfer” button.
If you wish to register or transfer additional domains, you can return to the domain search by clicking the “Continue Shopping” button. If you have already added all domains to your shopping cart, you can proceed to configure the domains by clicking the “Checkout” button.
Configure Product (Domain)
In the shopping cart, you’ll see an overview of the domains you’ve added for transfer, including a list of any remaining product configurations that need to be completed. In all cases, a valid AuthCode is required for the domain transfer, which you can obtain from your current domain provider.
Domain Contacts
In the configuration view, you can now select the appropriate domain contact. If you haven’t registered any domains with us yet, this contact will generally need to be created first. See also: Create Domain Contacts
Additional Information
Next, under Additional Information, you must enter the AuthCode you received from your old provider.
Nameservers and DNS Zone
In this section, you can select the nameservers through which your DNS zone will be propagated. Additionally, you can select a previously created DNS template.
If you are transferring an actively used domain with existing DNS records to us and also want to manage the DNS zone through our Customer Center, create a static DNS template (if you haven’t already) and select the creoline nameservers and the DNS template. See also: DNS Templates
Finally, you can save the configuration and complete the order process by clicking the “Checkout” button after selecting your preferred payment method.
