Setting Up a Domain for Sending and Receiving
This article describes how to set up a new domain for sending and receiving email via creoline Mail Protection.
Prerequisites
- The domain must be registered through creoline
- The domain zone must be managed through creoline
- The domain must not have any MX-type DNS records configured
Configure the domain
Log in to the Customer Center at account.creoline.com using your login credentials. Then, select the menu item Email Protection → Domains from the left sidebar. Click “Protect Domain” to begin setup.
-
Domain
Select the desired domain from the domain list for which you want to activate creoline Mail Protection.
-
Mode for Incoming Emails
By default, we recommend forwarding emails to the desired creoline server (destination server). Then select the server to which incoming emails should be forwarded.
Alternatively, you can select the “Do not forward emails” option (emails are not forwarded to any server) or specify an external mail server to which emails will be forwarded.
-
Destination Server
Specify the mail server that manages the email accounts. Here, you can, for example, select the hostname of your managed server or specify an external Exchange server. (Mode: External Mail Server)
Complete Setup
After you have filled in all fields, you can complete the setup by clicking the “Protect Domain” button. Please note that the setup process automatically configures all necessary DNS records for the domain.
The DNS records associated with Email Protection cannot be edited manually.
If you want to delete the DNS records, you must disable Email Protection for the configured domain in the overview.
Setup on the Destination Server
If you are using Email Protection for incoming emails, all security mechanisms for checking incoming emails must be disabled on the destination server. This includes:
- SPF verification
- DMARC verification
In Plesk, go to Tools & Settings → Mail Server Settings and disable the following options:
- DMARC → Enable DMARC verification of incoming emails
- DKIM Spam Protection → Verify Incoming Email Messages
- SPF Spam Protection → Enable SPF Spam Protection to Verify Incoming Emails
- Spam Protection Based on DNS Blackhole Lists → Enable Spam Protection Based on DNS Blackhole Lists
For complete instructions on how to disable DMARC, DKIM, and SPF verification on your Plesk server, see: Plesk: Disable SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
Which DNS records are created automatically?
During the setup process, Email Protection automatically creates the following DNS records for each domain:
MX records
@ 10 mail.in.creolineserver.de TXT records
@ v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.creoline.de -all @ v=DKIM1; h=sha256; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEB [*****] @ creoline-spam-token=defa177264447a1ecf076c59a37834******; domain=creoline-test.de; v=2020.06 _dmarc v=DMARC1; p=reject; rua=mailto:rua.dmarc@creolineserver.de; ruf=mailto:ruf.dmarc@creolineserver.de; rf=afrf; fo=1; pct=100; adkim=s; aspf=s
