Ownership Verification
Introduction
When ordering Sectigo SSL certificates, you must confirm ownership verification for the respective domain.
In general, the DV (Domain Validation) verification method must be completed before the Sectigo SSL certificate is issued.
DV (Domain Validation) Verification Method
When ordering Sectigo SSL certificates, you can select under “Configure” in the ordering process whether you want to confirm ownership via DNS validation or email validation.
DNS Validation
DNS validation requires a CNAME-type DNS record to confirm ownership of the domain.

Email Validation
During email validation, you will receive an email from the certification authority to confirm ownership of the domain.
OV Certificates (Organization Validation)
SSL certificates with Organization Validation (OV) provide an additional layer of online trust by authenticating the company’s identity and legitimacy.
Verification Methods for OV Certificates
The following verification methods are required in addition to the domain validation described above.
An organization must prove that it owns the domain name it wishes to secure and confirm that it is a legally registered business.
The verification process involves more complex validation methods, such as a certification authority (CA) confirming details like the company name and location before issuing the certificate.

Verification Method for EV Certificates (Extended Validation)
Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates offer the highest level of trust among all digital certificates and are the industry standard for business websites.
An EV SSL certificate is recommended for all business and corporate websites, but is especially important for websites that collect personal or financial data from users (e.g., e-commerce).
Verification Methods for EV Certificates
The following verification methods are required in addition to the Domain Validation and Organization Validation mentioned above.
To obtain this type of SSL/TLS certificate, an organization must verify details such as its legal business name, location, and ownership of the domain name.
This is followed by a verification process that must be completed by a human before the certificate is issued.
