What is the difference between VPS and dedicated licenses?
Plesk distinguishes between two types of licensing for the Control Panel:
- Licenses for virtual environments
- Licenses for dedicated environments
VPS licenses (or Virtual Private Server licenses) can only be installed on servers that use one of the virtualization technologies supported by Plesk.
Supported virtualization technologies:
Technology | VPS Licenses | Dedicated Licenses |
---|---|---|
Virtuozzo | Yes | Yes |
Xen | Yes | Yes |
KVM | Yes | Yes |
Hyper-V | Yes | Yes |
VMware | Yes | Yes |
Other | No | Yes |
Dedicated licenses can be installed on dedicated servers as well as on all virtual servers. Dedicated licenses are more expensive than VPS licenses, but can also be used on physical servers without any problems.
